Kay Thurston

Kay Thurston was born and bred in the NSW inland city of Wagga Wagga, now lives in Port Macquarie.

Kay's work is a deep reflection of her connection to the natural world. Inspired by the intricate beauty of native flora, she creates highly detailed pieces that celebrate the delicate patterns, textures and organic rhythms found in nature.

Working across a variety of surfaces, from textured white and black paper to both small and large-scale canvases, Kay brings her vision to life using fine line pens, Posca markers, inks, alcohol inks, acrylics and mixed media pieces using beautiful Washi paper.

Kay’s process is meticulous and intuitive, often layering fine details to evoke a sense of movement and depth. Curiosity and experimentation are central to Kay’s practice.

Constantly evolving, she has embraced alcohol inks and collage, pushing the boundaries of her work and exploring new ways to express the dynamic energy of the natural world.

Through her art, Kay invites viewers to pause and appreciate the intricate beauty that often goes unnoticed. Each piece a tribute to the quiet wonders of nature.
