Artists Suzannah Jones and Myffie Coady had not met each other before this Luminance exhibition. Their work in many ways couldn’t be more different: Suzannah paints abstracted landscapes; Myffie’s style is impressionist. Yet both artists respond to the world around them in ways each would recognise in the other.
Suzannah was born in Wingham, now lives beside the Dooribang (Williams River) in Dungog shire. She thinks of the river as a gift.
“The quiet ebb of slow-moving water, or the turbulent and sometimes violent rush of a flood. For a landscape artist, it is a gift to hold this ribbon of water in one's hand and respond to it intuitively through paint, pen and pastel.”
Myffie lives in Port Macquarie, on the NSW Mid North Coast. “My paintings are driven by emotion and energy, shaped by how I feel about the subject in front of me — whether it’s a windswept tree, a watchful animal, or a quiet stretch of bush. I’m fascinated by the delicate balance between fragility and strength found in Nature.”
