Mayor launches JOY
Sincere thanks to Port Macquarie Mayor Adam Roberts and to Deputy Mayor Nik Lipovac for launching JOY in Port Macquarie. JOY is an eye-catching art exhibition by under 15s. It features abstracts, landscapes, botanicals, cockatoos, bearded dragons, Quirky Firky and King Fishy Lee.
We didn’t name 1st, 2nd and 3rd best-in-show; that didn’t feel quite right. But we had gift vouchers to share - donated by Canvas Momentz, The Seed Art School, and Alice’s Art Craft and Paper Supplies - so we asked the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to draw names out of a ballot box.
Eight delighted young artists won vouchers for art supplies and tuition.
Sales for this exhibition are tracking well. We’re within reach of calling it a sell-out show. If you’d like to buy a unique Christmas gift, please get in touch by emailing art@luminancegallery.com.au.
You can view JOY online or visit us at 2/26 Clarence Street Port Macquarie, across the forecourt from Glasshouse.
JOY delivers what it says on the packet. For many participants, it’s their first-ever art exhibition and that in itself makes it all worthwhile.
“The launch was very special,” writes Susan Snape, whose son Archie Crowther (6) features in the JOY poster with his artwork, Quirky Firky. “Thank you for being his very first experience in the art world.”
JOY’s Gold Sponsor is McGrath Port Macquarie. We acknowledge and thank the McGrath team, in particular Todd Bates, for so generously supporting this exhibition.
Jane Whitfield from Drawn to Art helped spread the word about JOY and encouraged other supporters to come on board. A special shout-out goes to Jane for her valuable contribution.
Finally, thank you to the following donors and gift-givers who also made JOY possible:
