Malcolm Harding’s painterly allusion to things invisible
Many microscopic images have an uncanny similarity to their macroscopic counterparts, writes Malcolm Harding of the artworks he is exhibiting at Luminance Gallery in March 2026.
“Often these microscopic images look more like abstract art than science.
“My paintings draw inspiration from imperceptible biological forms found in nature. They suggest elements of the natural world that exist outside of human comprehension - things we can only see through microscopes and telescopes.
“The ‘organisms’ in the paintings present as marks, daubs and drips in colours not usually associated with scientific imaging - a painterly allusion to things invisible to the human eye.”
